Scanner not scanning properly - what to do...????

Respected members and dear friends,

I have one UMAX 3400 scanner bought 2 years back. The scanner is used say three or four times per month.

From last three days I have been trying to scan my few important documents BUT am unable to do so as the scanned copy is either having strange colours or black smudges and the like.

I mean the scannned copy is NOT at all upto the mark. I cleaned it with propyl alcohol and tissue paper but still no luck.

Any idea as to why it is NOT working properly and what should i do to remedy it...????

Also in case i decide to purchase a new scanner; which is the best scanner in the range of say rs 1000 to 4000; i mean which company's scanner is leader and whats the price...???????

warm regards

Thanks....

well Umax Scanners are pain, ask me, i own one! possibly, your Scanner has gone to bloaks, it's dead. The core component of the scanner is the CCD array. CCD is the most common technology for image capture in scanners. CCD is a collection of tiny light-sensitive diodes, which convert photons (light) into electrons (electrical charge). These diodes are called photosites. In a nutshell, each photosite is sensitive to light -- the brighter the light that hits a single photosite, the greater the electrical charge that will accumulate at that siteThe image of the document that you scan reaches the CCD array through a series of mirrors, filters and lenses. The exact configuration of these components will depend on the model of scanner, but the basics are pretty much the same. if any of those mirrors have a crack, or get affected by any hazard the scanner CAN't Be repaired. so i advice you to buy a new scanner. seeing your budget, the best option would be scanenrs from Canon and HP, try to go for Canon Scanners as they offer better performance and service.

I agree with raj, cannons if nothing else are highly cost effective. I have a printer, mrp don't hit and print qualities are cool too (unless u wanna print an invitation askin angelina jolie for a date)
