Hey flame_of_recca. Chaos sent you a good link. It has lots of very detailed information. Just incase you want a general idea of what HDTV (High Definition Television) is, it's simply television that is shown in much higher resolution. While your regular television can display images in 640 x 480 pixels, HDTV can display images up to 1920 x 1080 pixels.

It requires special feed from your cable or satellite provider and your television must be capable of displaying such images. Japan uses only HDTV signals at this point. The U.S. is "supposed" to be switching sometime in 2008 I believe.

Currently both the XBOX and PS2 have games that can be displayed in higher resolution on HDTV capable screens. Typically you will see games that offer aspects of 480p which is a step up from your regular television signals.

If you ever get the chance to see an HDTV in action you will be amazed at the visual quality, the pure sense of clarity in the picture is breath taking. HDTV is where television is going.

Yeah, unless you have an Xbox I can't see a purpose for Indian gamers to have HDTVs honestly. Are there any satellite or cable programming that will be taking advantage of HDTV in the near future?

Nope. Even DTH which has been touted to be hi-quality tv programming is not HDTV complaint since DTH signals are converted into analog for std TVs. And HDTV programming requires hi bandwidth which frnakly isnt available in india right now.

There are several cable and sattellite programmes running i guess it will take sometime for hdtv to be introduced as bladerunner pointed out india has a severe bandwidth problem.

Unlike convential TVs, which have a Resolution of 640x480 Pixels, HD TV or High Definition Tele Vision, has a Resolution of 1920x1440, Special Movies are compressed in that kind of High Resolution to Provide Ultra cinematic quality. so are games, many HD Game Videos availble todat for instance Gears of War, have a Resolution of 1280x720, and thus if you try to watch them on TV, you'd wasting their potetial, if you try to watch them on Pc, one needs a Extremly High end Pc to run those videos, without Frame Rates getting dipped, for e.g Atleast 3GHz CPU with 1.5GB Ram and a very Fast HDD. offcourse HDTVs are evry expensive, a normal HDTV costa round 1.6Lakh, funny thing, the Monitors we use are actually powerful enough to let us watch HD Videos provided if you have a decent Resolution 1600x1200 and up and have a high end pc :) Game consoles, PlayStation 2, XBox and GameCube Support HDTV Format, the XBox has Modest support for HDTV, since every game released on XBox is either 480i or 720p optimized, all you have to do is enable HDTV in put from Xbox's dashboard, use XBox's HD AV Cables, conenct your HDTV and voila! you don't haveto do all this stuff with PS2, since it has a weak GPU, hardly any games are HDTV optimized. as for GameCube, you have hold a certain button each time you fire up a game, and enable HDTV output EACH time you play, yes that's hairy. GC also lacks proper HDTV titles. normally as i said, TVs are not toptimized to run at those resolution, thus whena game is played on HDTV it looks much more clearer, if you don't have HDTV but still want to enjot HD Madness, then you can use Various Monitor coverters which are availble, they allow you to conenct Xbox to a Standard CRT monitor. i hope this answer your query :D
